Alibaba Group announced a strategic cooperation with Driscoll’s, a large US berry producer, to bring U.S. food products to China. Through this effort, Chinese consumers will be able to purchase fresh strawberries directly on Alibaba’s Tmall platform.

Alibaba has developed strategic cooperation and services that enable U.S. producers, wholesalers and associations to export fresh and prepared foods directly to Chinese consumers. Cainiao Network, Alibaba’s logistics affiliate, enables same day and next day delivery in more than 1,100 counties and districts in China.

An earthquake that struck off the coast of Chile Sept. 16 is taking little effect on the country’s fresh fruit industry.

As of Sept. 17, the Chilean industry was still assessing conditions in northern and central growing regions, but initial reports indicated “almost no damage,” according to a news release from the Santiago-based Chilean Fresh Fruit Exporters Association (ASOEX).

As of Sept. 17, ASOEX had received no reports of damage to packing sheds, cold storage facilities or transportation links.

“There does not seem to be any impact on the fruit industry, and the coming cherry and blueberry seasons should begin without any major interruption,” Ronald Bown, ASOEX’s chairman.
